Deadline: Dart Awards for Excellence in Coverage of Trauma

Entries are due for the 2012 Dart Awards, recognizing exemplary journalism about the impact of violence, crime, disaster and other traumatic events on individuals, families and communities.
This year, judges will once again select up to four award winners, each of which will be recognized with a $5000 prize. To apply, please review the full application guidelines.
Entries must be received in our office no later than Thursday, January 19, 2012 at 5 p.. E.S.T. Late entries including those postmarked on the deadline date will not be accepted.

Presentation: Why Trauma Literacy Matters in Crisis Reporting

In Jyväskylä, Finland, Dart Centre Europe Director Gavin Rees will give a keynote on crisis reporting at a national seminar for journalists, rescue workers and their co-ordinating bodies.
Other scheduled speakers include journalists, researchers and representatives from the Council for Mass Media in Finland. The seminar is organised by The hospital district in Mid-Finland and the newspaper Keskisuomalainen.

Presentation: Trauma and Crisis Reporting

At the University of Helsinki in Finland, a regional seminar for journalism students and media researchers on how journalists can best prepare to cover crisis situations.
Dart Centre Europe Director, Gavin Rees will talk on what journalists need to know when reporting on sudden crisis situations. Also talking will be leading Finnish journalists and media researchers. The seminar is organised by the Crisis Media and Research Programme at the University of Helsinki.

Seminar: Self-Care for Journalists and the Responsibilities of Editors/Managers

In Helsinki, Finland, a regional seminar for invited media personnel on journalists' well-being and crisis reporting, hosted by the Finnish Union of Journalists.
Dart Centre Europe Director, Gavin Rees, will be talking about promoting well-being with journalists working on cirisis related assignments and what managers and editors need to know about how best to support their staff.
Psychologists and other journalists will also be speaking.
