Battered Women and Children: Research and Resilience

In this video from the 2011 Dart Center workshop "Out of the Shadows: Reporting on Intimate Partner Violence," Sussan Herman, J.D. and Janice Humphreys, Ph.D, RN, NP, discuss frameworks for understanding responses to intimate partner violence from biology and criminal justice.

Criminal justice professor Susan Herman and nursing professor Janice Humphreys provide two different frameworks for looking at violence against women and children. Humphreys discusses research on resilience and models of response to trauma among battered women and children, while Herman discusses "parallel justice." Bruce Shapiro, executive director of the Dart Center for Journalism and Trauma, moderates.

This video is from a two-day workshop held at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in October, 2011, made possible by generous funding from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation: "Out of the Shadows: Reporting on Intimate Partner Violence."
