International Day to End Impunity

On November 23, 2009, thirty-two journalists and media workers were murdered in the town of Ampatuan in the Philippines in what the Committe to Protect Journalists called "the single deadliest event for the press since 1992—when CPJ began keeping detailed records." In commemoration of this day, and in an attempt to achieve justice for the thousands of journalists who are threatened, beaten, kidnapped, murdered and otherwise silenced each year, the IFEX global network for free expression is sponsoring the International Day to End Impunity on November 23rd.

Over the subsequent 23 days, the campaign will highlight the stories of those who have been denied their freedom of expression while asking participants to take part in a daily action to raise awareness.
