The Dart Centre for Journalism and Trauma would like to invite interested colleagues to a discussion about “traumatic imagery” and the changing realities journalists face across Europe. Many of our colleagues find themselves on the frontline without leaving home. Across Europe the increasingly polarised political environment leads to more hostility against journalists, ranging from online harassment to physical attacks, all the way to death threats and even the murder of journalists.

How does this manifest itself in the photography that documents these changes?

How do photographers and  picture editors make tough decisions around representation?

How do we take care of ourselves and our colleagues in an increasingly hostile environment?

How does the new reality affect our role as reporters/photographers?

Michael Pfister - Director of Photography, Zeit Online

and

Lena Mucha - Photojournalist, Berlin

will be in conversation with Jeanny Gering, Program Manager at the Dart Centre for Journalism and Trauma at the Club der Polnischen Versager (Ackerstr. 168, Berlin Mitte)

on Wednesday, September 12th at 19:00

The discussion will last around an hour, the bar will be open and we’ll have time to continue the conversation over drinks.
