Partners in journalist safety today released a new series of online resources to help news professionals cover trauma, violence and disaster, focused on mental health, climate reporting, covering sexual violence, and approaches to reporting in Indigenous communities.

TraumaAwareJournalism.org features “micro-learning” videos, resources and study guides in an online toolkit produced for reporters, newsrooms and journalism schools by the Dart Center for Journalism and Trauma, CBC/Radio-Canada, and the Canadian Journalism Forum on Violence and Trauma.

“This new slate of videos builds on years of journalistic innovation and evidence-based trauma science,” said Bruce Shapiro, Executive Director of the Dart Center for Journalism and Trauma at Columbia Journalism School. “For news professionals and students alike, these tools provide foundational skills to strengthen reporting and enhance resilience.”

"These videos are free, easy to use, and packed with advice on how to help our community cope with covering some of the most urgent issues of our time," said Dave Seglins, a CBC journalist and executive producer on the TraumaAwareJournalism.org project. “We’re thrilled to have candid interviews with dozens of global experts on journalism and trauma who share practical advice designed for journalists, newsrooms and j-schools,” Seglins said.

“We’ve been really gratified to see the positive response to the first set of modules and this second set will carry forward that success,” said Jane Hawkes, co-founder of the Forum. “This second phase of the website features 15 new videos on a diverse range of topics.”
