Boston Globe Spotlight Team Talks Shop: Investigating Sexual Abuse

Investigating Sexual Assault on Campus

As part of the Spring National College Media Association in New York City, Dart's Elana Newman will join Amy Herdy, Paula Lavigne, Kristen Lombardi, Nicole Noren and Sofia Karasek to discuss covering campus sexual assault. The interactive workshop will include presentations on best practices for investigating campus sexual assault cases, including record requests, sourcing and how to responsibly interview survivors. 

"Spotlight" on Globe's Coverage of Church Abuse

The feature film "Spotlight" is based on the stories and reporters behind The Boston Globe's investigation of sexual abuse in the Catholic Church. In advance of the Academy Awards this weekend, we revisit an interview with the Globe's Spotlight team about approaching and speaking with survivors of abuse, maintaining privacy during a national investigation and taking care of themselves during a difficult story.

Conversation: Reporting on Allegations of Child Abuse

In London, this Dart Centre Europe forum will bring together journalists who have been working on child abuse stories and provide an opportunity to share insight, practical reporting tips and lessons learned. The discussion will be introduced by Alex Renton, contributing editor to the Observor Magazine, and moderated by Gavin Rees, executive director of Dart Centre Europe. Also on hand to share their experience will be Dr Sarah Heke, Director of the Institute of Psychotrauma, and Gill Moreton, Dart Centre Europe board director and lead clinician at the Rivers Centre in Edinburgh.
