Facing Torture: Comprehensive New Report Tracks Victims of CIA Abuses

For the first time, a report has been released on the CIA’s post 9/11 secret torture campaign which details the abuse of 136 named victims. Through the Open Society Justice Initiative’s 216-page report entitled “Globalizing Torture: CIA Secret Detention & Extraordinary Rendition,” Amrit Singh demonstrates that responsibility lies not only with the United States, but with 54 foreign governments that were complicit in these actions.

In a blog written for OSF, George Soros writes, "Even though I—you—have heard many stories about what was done in the name of the war against terror, I found myself shocked again about what was done under the CIA’s secret programs after 9/11. These are not the practices of an open society. Only with a full reckoning can the United States hope to close the door on this shameful chapter in its history."

The Dart Center has a multitide of resources on torture for those journalists who reach out to the victims named in this report, or others. Click for a recent talk from Andrew Hogg and an accompanying tip sheet on interviewing victims of torture.
