How to Cover the Flu Pandemic

For journalists sorting fact from myth as they cover the story of 2009 H1N1, there's now a one-stop resource for you online. Compiled by the Nieman Foundation at Harvard University, "Covering Pandemic Flu" provides resources written by and for journalists, as well as expert insight into history and science of the disease; various institutional approaches to preparedness; and the world of public health message making.

The website's editor, Nieman Foundation Special Project Manager Stefanie Friedhoff, writes:

We hope this guide will enable more journalists to provide reliable, informative and nuanced coverage that neither sensationalizes nor sugarcoats the news in a pandemic; and that it will enable reporters and their newsrooms to make better informed decisions on which pandemic stories to cover, when, and how.
