John Trotter is a freelance photojournalist and 2007 Ochberg Fellow. His work has been exhibited in the US and in Europe and has appeared in Life, U.S. News and World Report, Nieman Reports, American Photography and numerous other publications. In 1997 he was a photographer and photo editor for the Sacramento Bee when he was severely beaten by gang members in a Sacramento neighborhood. Trotter documented his own recovery from traumatic brain injury in Life Magazine and in his forthcoming book "The Burden of Memory." He is the recipient of numerous awards within the US and abroad.
