You Can Help! Survey on Hostile Environment, First Aid & Safety Training
The Dart Center is working with researchers at The University of Tulsa to better understand journalists’ experience with hostile environment, first aid, and safety training.
In recent years, various forms of hostile environment and safety training have become a staple in the news industry; in many news organizations such trainings are now mandatory for certain assignments. But there has not been any systematic research into its value or results, nor has there been an independent assessment of the diverse training practices available under the safety training umbrella.
Dr. Elana Newman and her team have developed a confidential survey to more deeply understand journalists' experience of these trainings and their application in the field. The survey should not take more than 15 minutes to complete.
The results of this research will help organizational decision-makers and journalists ask the right questions prior to enrolling in safety training programs.
If you have not completed it already, please click here to fill out the survey, and pass it on to any other journalists who may be interested in sharing their experiences.
