Haiti: January 12, 2010
Editor's note: Photojournalist Ron Haviv arrived in Haiti just 24 hours after the catastrophic earthquake that took an estimated 250,000 lives, injured hundreds of thousands and left nearly 1 million people homeless. Epic devastation of this magnitude defies comprehension.
Six weeks later, Haviv collaborated with VII, his photo agency, and the video design group telegraph21 to produce this haunting plea and reminder to a world that so quickly forgets.
Haviv's work reminds us that journalism can do more than simply describe what happened. This multimedia piece is a call to action. In conjunction with publication of the similarly titled book, "Haiti: January 12, 2010," Haviv opens a way for those outside Haiti to participate in supporting the Haitian people as they write the aftermath of this natural disaster and humanitarian crisis.
