Home on the Water
In a personal journey that is a passionate elegy for an imperiled environment and traditional way of life, documentary photographer Kael Alford has built a bridge home from the wars she’s covered. With the support of a commission from the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, Georgia, Alford has spent the last five years documenting the erosion of wetlands on the Louisiana coast and a culture she’d previously known only through her grandmother’s stories. "Home on the Water" draws from Alford’s depth of vision framing the impact of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the wider panorama of survival on the coast. Her work will be the subject of a book and a major exhibition at the High Museum of Art in 2012. Read the text of an interview with Alford conducted by Dart Media Curator Donna DeCesare here.
