2018 Dart Awards & World Press Freedom Day Commemoration
The annual Dart Awards recognize outstanding reporting in all media that portrays traumatic events with accuracy, insight and sensitivity while illuminating the effects of violence and tragedy on victims’ lives.
This year's Dart Awards went to The Marshall Project for "We Are Witnesses" and to The Washington Post for its series on gun violence seen through the eyes of children. Honorable mentions went to The California Sunday Magazine and The New York Times Magazine.
The 2018 winners' roundtable featured Neil Barsky, Founder, The Marshall Project; John Woodrow Cox, Enterprise Reporter, Washington Post; Azmat Khan, Investigative Reporter; and Lizzie Presser, Contributing Writer, The California Sunday Magazine. The event also included a special World Press Freedom commemoration featuring Columbia Journalism School graduate students Ali Anisi Tehrani and Davi Merchan.
