Courtney Bonnell is the day supervisor for the editing operation overseeing AP’s 13 Western states and is a key editor and collaborator on immigration coverage. She has edited and helped write major stories, including devastating wildfires and racial injustice protests. Before the AP, she worked as a copy editor, metro editor and front-page coordinator for the Arizona Republic.

The judges described "Lives Lost” as an “astonishingly powerful,” “multi-layered” package that “reveals the devastating, global-scale loss that the virus has had on humanity.” The judges also commended AP for its “tremendous institutional commitment” to a “beautiful project of human portraits despite the onslaught of daily news."
